Award shortlisting for LPs

We’re delighted to announce that two Licensed Practitioners at a Portsmouth primary school have been shortlisted for an award for their work in bringing the Thrive Approach into their school.

Kerry Cawte, left,  and Claire Jeftha, right, who work at St George’s Beneficial Church of England Primary School have been shortlisted in the Wellbeing of Staff or Pupils category of the Teach Portsmouth Awards for their work with Thrive. The talented pair will find out if they have won at an awards ceremony tomorrow.

Kerry and Claire took part in the first blended Learning Practitioner course that Thrive ran in Portsmouth in 2018 and Thrive’s Principal Trainer Viv Trask-Hall has fond memories of how both embraced the Thrive Approach and were inspired to embed Thrive across the school.

“This is great news for Claire and Kerry and what they have achieved at St George’s. Their enthusiasm for Thrive really came across and it’s great to hear how the Thrive Approach has benefited pupils at St George’s. The shortlisting is also a great endorsement for the blended LP course, which means that practitioners have fewer days away from their setting by using e-learning and e-mentoring tools to supplement face-to-face training days,” said Viv.

St George’s Beneficial Church of England Primary School, in Portsea, has 339 pupils – with 45 per cent in receipt of the pupil premium grant. Since Claire and Kerry successfully completed their LP training, St George’s has made a number of changes such as having a dedicated space to give children one-to-one emotional support and encouraging children and staff to use mindfulness and breathing techniques.

“The most satisfying thing is that there are some individuals – particularly the ones that didn’t have much confidence and didn’t have a voice – that have really changed. They are wanting to learn and wanting to be heard,” said Kerry, a Year One teacher.

Claire and Kerry are now keen to undergo training in Family Thrive so that they can offer the Thrive Approach to parents.

The Teach Portsmouth Awards are held every year as part of Teach Portsmouth Week. The awards recognise outstanding teachers in the city and aim to showcase excellence in teaching across the city.

We have everything crossed for Claire and Kerry!
