An opportunity to watch the film Resilience -THE BIOLOGY OF STRESS & THE SCIENCE OF HOPE and to be introduced to the Thrive Approach.
About this course
This twilight session is designed for Heads/SENCo's and Strategic Leads to learn more about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) and the Thrive Approach.
The session will start with the one hour documentary film exploring how adverse childhood experiences (ACE's) can shape a child's physical and mental health. You will discover how toxic stress is related to ACE, how trauma-informed policies and practices have been developed in the USA and how cutting edge research is exploring the impact.
Following this, you will be introduced to the theory and concepts of Thrive and how it can be used to support children and young people in their settings. Thrive is informed by a deep understanding of, and sensitivity to, childhood trauma and adverse childhood experiences, but the Approach remains focused on where children and young people are now and moving them towards full emotional health and wellbeing.
The positive focus of Thrive, underpinned by the Thrive-Online program, identifies individual need from current skills and behaviours so that staff are able to work with what they see, without the need for child histories and adverse experiences.
The session will outline the essential element of the Approach which comprises:
training - Introductory Staff training and Licensed Practitioner training
use of Thrive-Online - the underpinning assessment, action planning and progress monitoring tool that supports staff to address interruptive behaviours, overcome barriers, and develop well-being and learning potential
continuing professional development
the option to train your own trainers to build in-house capacity
This session is free and it and will be led by a Thrive regional representative.
