Summary
Developing A Relational Policy: Using the relate-rupture-repair cycle to support behaviour
In Thrive we believe that managing behaviour is not about finding the right set of rules…It’s about finding the right relationships. This workshop will help you to begin to write a relational policy for your setting. You will receive a relational policy scaffold to consider and to adapt for the needs of the children and young people you work with, together with advice and guidance for implementation.
About this course
Managing behaviour is hugely debated and often leads to very detailed and specific procedures to manage types of behaviour. By adopting a relational approach we can understand typical behaviours children and young people show at different stages in their social and emotional development. By understanding these we can equip adults to know what to do to support behaviour by understanding how to be.
This two-hour webinar will develop licensed practitioners’ capacity to support their wider staff teams to work with children through a relational policy based on the rupture repair cycle. You will discover some helpful ways to respond to the children and young people gaining some new, practical strategies, activities and resources, grounded in recent research, that will enhance your own and your colleagues’ ability to support these children and young people moving forwards.
You will come away from this webinar with:
• a deeper insight into typical behaviours for children and young people at each stage of development
• an understanding of how what behaviours to expect and therefore ways in which to help
• a range of new activities, resources and techniques to draw on that you can share with the wider staff
• a greater awareness of your own needs and resources.
