Practitioner Course - Adolescent Years
Learn to work effectively with secondary school aged children, and especially vulnerable young people with disruptive and troubling behaviour, to help re-engage them with life and learning.
Learn why adolescents behave the way they do and understand some of the troubling behaviours seen in this age group such as self-harming, substance abuse and issues with low self-esteem. Use Thrive-Online to screen whole groups of teenagers to identify their underlying emotional and social learning needs. Learn how to use young people's behaviour as a clue to underlying developmental interruptions. Consider ways to organise provision to more effectively address the social learning of vulnerable or challenging young people and discover practical activities to help them. Feel more confident to deal with adolescents and find stress levels reduce as relationships between staff and young people improve.
We will be looking at understanding human development with particular emphasis on the adolescent brain
