During the 2-hour session, you will:

  • Apply the principles of neurodiversity affirming practice to interpreting and co-regulating children’s behaviours (and underlying needs).
  • Identify common developmental differences and needs, such as the role of stress, sensory differences and environment.
  • Apply practical strategies to support co-regulation and compassion with children in ways that affirm their differences and needs.
  • Begin to challenge internalised and systemic norms about what is considered "normal" behaviour in early childhood settings, and gently shift expectations.

What you'll learn

This webinar invites early years educators, professionals, and caregivers to reframe their understanding of childhood behaviour through a neurodiversity-affirming lens.

Moving beyond deficit-based perceptions, we will explore how behaviours provide information about the child’s internal experiences, preferences, and ways of engaging with the world. Grounded in principles of co-regulation, and developmental diversity, this session supports participants to see behaviour as a gateway for understanding a child’s differences and needs, as well as aiming for more compassionate practices, over compliance.
