What Train-the-Trainer Grads are saying

Laura Nicholson. Trainer-the-Trainer Graduate

"The training is exhilarating and interesting. It’s also intense and hard work. And it’s a real journey of self-discovery. For me personally, it was a way to develop myself further. My school had a sense of pride that they were going to have a Thrive Trainer as a member of staff. We used a lot of models about self-awareness which were helpful and enlightening for me. And enlightening isn’t always comfortable.

When I was in the thick of it, self-doubt and imposter syndrome started to set in. I shared those doubts and concerns and by the end I had a confidence in myself that was absolutely huge. I felt like a different person."

Phil Hughes. Train-the-Trainer Graduate

"It’s not just about the knowledge. It’s not just about your ability to make relationships. It’s not just about your ability to teach. It’s everything all at once. The depth of personal reflection it requires and understanding your emotions has been pivotal both to my career and to life. I was thinking, “Is this for me? Am I able to get through it?” Our Trainer pulled me aside one day and asked me to be a bit kinder to myself – to give myself a break.

I could well up again now to be honest. All those things that were a part of my character that perhaps hadn’t been accepted in the school environment were something that Thrive wanted me to incorporate in my delivery so I was using my authentic voice."

Sarah Harding. Train-the-Trainer Graduate

"It was the hardest, most intense, emotional thing that I’ve ever done. I would also say that it’s the best thing that I’ve ever done.

My journey through the course was like an emotional rollercoaster. From the minute I signed up to the moment I finished, it was completely up and down all the way through. I had a chat with one of my trainers and she gave me the option to delay it – to take some time out for myself. The break I had gave me the chance to read the manual again and again and really come to terms with the neuroscience, the theory and embed it in my brain. I was able to know it inside out, be more confident.

The shadowing and observation and teaching days I found were really valuable. During that time, I had feedback from trainers and delegates that gave me the confidence to believe in myself. The advice I’d give is the same advice that was given to me: read the manual again and again and again. And believe in yourself. Yes it’s hard. Yes there’ll be tears. Eventually you’ll get there. In your own time."
